Exploring Dumfries & Galloway's Lost Railway Heritage

Alasdair Wham tells the story of how the railways changed Dumfries and Galloway, increasing tourism, linking local industries and the vital contribution of the railway network to the war effort. The author explores the heritage left behind, tracing disused trackbeds and visiting sites of railway interest. Sections of former trackbeds that can be walked are highlighted in a series of walks, enabling the curious to explore, where possible, Dumfries and Galloway's railway heritage on foot. Clear maps and grid references are provided to aid the exploration and the book is illustrated throughout with both historic photographs and photographs showing the remains of the railways today. Alasdair is an experienced railway writer and has written a number of guides to Scotland's railways.
