Class 59s

The American-built Class 59 locomotives have now been part of the UK railway scene for 35 years and have proved to be one of the most reliable types ever to take to the tracks. They were also the first privately owned locomotives to be used in the UK, being constructed at a time when quarry owners were looking for something more reliable that the Class 56s that were then in use. This book portrays all three Class 59 sub classes working on various trains around the south of England, from their early years up to present day with every loco depicted.
