Description / Sheffield Trams

Sheffield was the last city in England to operate trams. Renowned for its cheap fares, frequent services, high maintenance standards and steeply graded routes, the system continued to expand until 1935. Over 300 new four-wheel double-deckers were built between 1928 and 1952 including the famous ‘Roberts’ cars. Ironically, as the last of these was being delivered, the city implemented its policy of tramway abandonment, the final route closing on 8th October 1960. Thirty years later, trams were back on the streets of Sheffield. This DVD recaptures the glory days when the city possessed a tramway of which it could be justly proud. This is an evocative selection of films, many in colour, depicting Sheffield's trams. All types of car are seen before, during and after the last war.
