Dundee Trams

This DVD was specially produced to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the closure of the Dundee tramway in October 1956. It contains superb scenes of the trams in a rich variety of locations with detailed coverage of the years 1954 to 1956. Trace the development of the fleet and the route pattern with a mixture of stills and archive footage, the earliest dating from 1911. Enjoy scenes of the trams in the immediate post-war years before the advent of adverts and the start of the closure programme. In 1955, ride one of the turn-of-the-century ex-bogie cars along the busy Blackness - Downfield route, with its single track and loops, tenements and factories, steep hills and ice rink. In 1956, surge out to Lochee on one of the 'Ghost Trams', sweeping around right-angle bends and climbing fearsome grades. Also join the crowds on Dundee's prestige route from Ninewells to Maryfield with action on its single line section as well as West Park, Sinderins, Nethergate, Murraygate and Stobswell.
