This book gives an overview of how the foreign countries trading with China were leased land in Shanghai - it was never any country's colony - and what they did to set up public transport in their areas, forming tramways, adding trolleybuses and finally buses and how, having seen the success of the foreign operations, the Chinese set up their own tramway in adjacent districts.
